Introduction to the Alexander Technique

Whatever we do – in our work, in our self-care, in our pastimes and creative pursuits, and in the simple activities of living – the Alexander Technique helps us to find ease and grace.

We are all aware to some degree – but how much? Tension is an anesthetic – the tighter our muscles are, the less we feel. Also, our senses can mislead us, so what “feels right” is far from natural or neutral.  The Alexander Technique asks us to stop doing what is familiar and make a choice to move and react differently. As F. M. Alexander said, “You can’t do something you don’t know, if you keep on doing what you do know.”

How do you sit at a computer? How do you drive your car? How much tension has crept unnoticed into all your daily activities? We can constructively take conscious control of ourselves once we have the tools.
